Interview with Ana Camins, General Secretary of the Popular Party in Madrid

This Monday Federico Quevedo interviews Ana Camins, General Secretary of the Popular Party in Madrid and senator appointed by the Assembly of Madrid.

The renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) is one of the current issues, after the Government and the Popular Party have begun to negotiate it again. However, according to Ana Camins, the Popular Party’s conditions remain the same: that Unidas Podemos does not participate. “Those who attack the sentences and the judges cannot be there”, explained the secretary general.

The Secretary General criticised the presence of Dolores Delgado, the current state attorney, in these discussions. According to her, “it goes against the Partido Popular” as Delgado was a former socialist minister of justice under the previous government of Pedro Sánchez.

In the interview, Camins also gave her opinion on the protests that have taken place following the imprisonment of the rapper, Pablo Hasél. The General Secretary criticised the actions of the government delegate in Madrid for being unhelpful because “this cannot happen in Madrid”, she said.

Budgets of the Community of Madrid

There was also time to talk about matters of interest in the Community of Madrid, such as the budgets. Ana Camins explained that these “budgets are more necessary than ever”. Specifically, the Popular group led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, includes direct aid to companies while European funds arrive, among other measures.

Finally, Camins has criticized the difficulties that the Vox party is adding to the budget negotiations. She also stated that the Popular Party, Vox and Ciudadanos have several aspects in common that should facilitate the process.
